AKC Community Programs

Lancaster Kennel Club members are active in their community, especially when it comes to educating the public about the health and welfare of their canine companions. In addition to sponsoring and producing the annual LKC dog shows, the membership provides educational programs for the community and schools.

• Holding Meet the Breeds and other educational events


• Maintaining a help line to the community for educating new owners and referring potential dog enthusiasts to reputable breeders. Contact our Breed Referral.


• Holding Canine Good Citizenship Tests for dogs of both LKC members and non-members.


• Offering free educational programs at its membership meetings which are open to the public.


• Awarding over $100,000 in scholarships to students studying small animal care at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, Harcum Junior College Veterinary Technician Program and at other nationally recognized veterinary schools, universities and technical schools.


• Holding periodic Responsible Dog Ownership Day events in the community.


• Providing leadership at the local, state and national levels in many areas of canine legislation with the Pennsylvania Federation of Dog Clubs and the American Kennel Club.
